Villa Maria Estate Winemakers Picnic
Visit Maungakiekie, Auckland 's favourite historic reserve. Better known as Cornwall Park, the Farm and Estate of the late Sir John Logan Campbell was previously an ancient Maori Pa site for some 500 years.
See the volcanic craters and take in magnificent 360 degree views of Auckland & Rangitoto, a dormant volcano in the Hauraki Gulf. Then go on a winemaking odyssey. See how the wine is made on a private guided tour through the vineyard and spectacular winery of Villa Maria Estate. This is the most awarded & largest privately owned wine company in New Zealand. Their design award winning state of the art winery and vineyard park are also nestled within the rim of an ancient volcano situated on the Ihimatao Peninsula.
Enjoy tasting a minimum of 6 award winning wines accompanied by delicious antipasto & breads before the return trip to Auckland.
Vineyards, Honey & Black Sand Beaches
Be treated to a private winery tour & tasting at historic Kumeu River Wines. As one of New Zealand's finest family producers, see how their stunning chardonnays are barrel fermented and slowly created. The winemaker Michael Brajkovich MW became this country's first Master of Wine.
Then enjoy a one course open menu lunch with tea /coffee from the menu at Beesonline Honey Factory Cafe’ See the bees at work or try the honeys and products made from different New Zealand flora. Relax with a side trip to visit the Muriwai black sand beach and Gannet colony. Watch these beautiful sea birds fly and nest on rock outcrops, one of only two sites in New Zealand where this is done. See the rugged West Coast and Regional Park meeting the Tasman Sea.
Matakana Vineyards Coastal Getaway
Head North toward the picturesque region of Matakana. A market garden vineyard and farming region this tour takes you through Johnstons Hill tunnel to the tiny historic Bohemian village of Puhoi. Visit the local cheese factory and cafe and sample their excellent cheeses. See an 850 year old Kauri Tree. Enjoy a tasting of NZ’s best Sangiovese & Dolcetto and enjoy an open menu one course lunch from the superb Plume Vineyard Restaurant. In the afternoon continue with a tasting at Omaha Bay Vineyard. Visit Morris & James ceramics & the tiny township of Matakana. On the way home stop at the New Zealand Honey centre to sample some of their indigenous flora honeys. The homeward journey traces the coast through the seaside resorts of Orewa and Waiwera mineral springs.
