Dunedin Gourmet Taster (full day)
Morning
Whether you prefer wine or beer, seafood or shorefood our exquisite Dunedin Gourmet Taster day tour has a taste to please everyone. Enjoy the comfort of the Big Limo luxury coach on your day tour around Dunedin.
The day begins with a visit to the picturesque Orokonui Ecosanctuary for morning tea. Here you will sample food ‘from the land’ (crafted in the onsite kitchen), Evansdale cheese (locally produced in Waikouaiti), as well as a hot drink. After your tasting enjoy a walking tour of the ecosanctuary. Your guide will point out some of the local flora (plant life) which was used to make your morning tea, as well as native birds which have settled in the ecosanctuary.
Enjoy the stunning views of the Dunedin harbour as you descend to historic Carey’s Bay Hotel. In this impressive stone building (built in 1874) you will be treated to a presentation by Southern Clams Limited.
After learning about what makes these local shellfish popular worldwide you will have the chance to taste some. Chef Johnny demonstrates some cooking tips you can replicate at home before allowing you to taste his freshly prepared creations.
Lunch
After the tasting, a selection of Seafood and Ploughman’s platters will be served for lunch.
Afternoon
Ice cream and beer kick off the afternoon proceedings with one of the following:
a. Enjoy a visit to The Gourmet Ice Cream Co. with a talk and tasting of their award winning products (‘crafted by connoisseurs, not chemists’), before moving on to Greenman Brewery for a tasting and tour of this organic, boutique brewery.
b. Experience the famous Speight’s brewery, founded in 1876, where you will not only learn about the Speight’s products, but also about the history of beer itself. At the conclusion of the tour you will be treated to a tasting of not only beer, but Speight’s Old Dark flavoured ice cream (made by the Gourmet Ice Cream Co.)
A relaxed wine tasting rounds out The Dunedin Gourmet Taster. Whenever possible we will take you to one of Dunedin’s secret gems, Weston Winery. Hidden away in Wakari, Weston Winery is authenticated by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s southernmost winery. Enjoy the locally crafted wine as Geoff Weston regales you with tales of winemaking in New Zealand, all seen from his unique perspective.
Dunedin Gourmet Taster (half day)
You can choose either the morning or afternoon component of the Full Day tour mentioned above. Both tours include lunch.
