Our low impact eco-friendly swim allows these beautiful animals to respond in their own way. The Abel Tasman Seal Swim is an unforgettable wildlife experience! Choose from the Seal swim or for those not wanting to venture into the water the Seal watch.
Travel deep into the park with a 45 minute scenic Aqua Taxi ride through the world-renowned natural beauty of the Abel Tasman National Park. We pass dozens of stunning coves and golden sand beaches on our way. We swim in New Zealand’s warmest seal habitat. Tonga Island Marine Reserve, a sanctuary and NZ fur seal breeding colony for 16 years. This is where we jump in! The seals are untamed and free - we are guests in their world.
Our skilled and trained guides swim with you to ensure your safety. We have a fully equipped Aqua Taxi support boat on-hand throughout your swim. Before departure, there is a full and in-depth safety briefing. After swimming we’ll serve up a piping hot drink for all. Sit back and enjoy, while your guide tells you a tale or two. With our small group numbers, your experience will be warm and personal.
Seal Swim: Join these playful and curious creatures at close quarters in their environment. Our low impact eco friendly swim allows these beautiful animals to respond in their own way. After your briefing, the 45 min scenic Aqua Taxi ride to Tonga Island Marine Reserve is followed by a full one hour low impact eco friendly swim. At the conclusion of our swim we’ll relax on the beach, enjoy a hot drink and bask in the simplicity of it all.
Seal Watch: Join the seal watch crew and share in all the sights of the Seal Swim. Learn about the behaviour and breeding patterns of the seals kekeno before boarding the Aqua Taxi for a 45 minute scenic ride to Tonga Island. Then when the swimmers enter the magic world of the seals kekeno let the seal swim wonders begin.
Trip Includes
- All our trip options include a return Aqua Taxi ride from Marahau to Tonga Island, a guaranteed hour snorkeling and swimming or watching the seals kekeno
- 2 Aqua Taxi rides
- Swim with the seals (Seal Swim option) or watch the seals from the comfort of the boat
- Quality 5mm wetsuits. Snorkel, mask, flippers and headgear

- Departures times vary depending on the tide, we will confirm the departure time when you make your booking:
- Departs either 9.15am (returns 2:30pm), 11.15am (returns 4:30pm), 1.15pm (returns 6:30pm)
Other Information
- Minimum age is 12 years and all children must be with a parent
- Please bring: Sunscreen, warm top (wool/fleece), swimsuit, towel, insect repellent, wind jacket and camera, personal water bottle and something to eat. Please bring medication if you are prone to motion sickness
