About

Description

Find out for yourself why Lonely Planet has rated sea kayaking as the best way to see Milford Sound. Rosco’s Milford Kayaks is New Zealand’s longest established owner operated sea kayaking business.

We are New Zealand’s longest established owner/operated sea kayaking company with almost two decades’ experience showcasing Milford the eco-adventurous way. That’s experience you can count on.

Roscoʼs is Milfordʼs only specialist sea kayaking company based in Milford Sound. We are the only company to run kayak trips to the outer fiord including Stirling Falls. We offer you five different sea kayaking options. Choose one to suit you and remember to book early to avoid disappointment.

All trips depart from Milford Sound although the Sunriser can include transfers from Te Anau.

Morning Glory – “The full length of Milford”
Paddle the full length of Milford to the Tasman Sea (weather permitting) before returning on our water taxi. Limited to just 7 people. This is our premium sea kayak excursion. Suitable for experienced kayakers. Paddle experience essential and a good outdoors fitness and stamina required for paddling in waves and possible sea breeze.

  • Experienced paddlers only
  • 4 -5 hours paddling time
  • Departs 6am (returns by midday)
  • Available summer months only (Nov - Mar)

Sunriser Classic – “Rosco’s original”
Pioneered by Rosco back in ‘91. This is our most popular trip during Summer and Winter. A big loop of Milford taking in all the highlights. Suitable for everyone as no experience requried.

  • No experience required
  • 5 hours paddling time
  • Departs between 7.30am and 10am depending on time of year and sunrise (returns 5.5 hours later)
  • Available all year

Day Safari - (Sunriser Classic with transfers from Te Anau)
This combo includes the Sunriser Classic and guided return road transport from Te Anau. Allow our driver/guide to show you all the best spots on New Zealand’s top alpine road before you embark on your kayaking adventure.

  • No experience required
  • 5 hours paddling time
  • Departs between 6am and 7am depending on time of year and sunrise (returns to Te Anau between 6pm & 7pm)
  • This is the only tour that offer return transfers from Te Anau (2 hours drive each way to Milford)
  • Available all year

Stirling Sunriser – “Go further, see more”
Take our water taxi out beyond Stirling Falls (151m). A highlight of this trip is paddling as close as you dare under this magnificent waterfall. It is exhilarating fun and an exciting way to start our most popular trip on Milford Sound. Limited to just 7 people.

  • No experience required
  • 5 hours paddling time
  • Departs 9am (returns by 2pm)
  • Available summer months only (Nov - Mar)

Twilighter – “Adventure paddling at it’s best”
Wind and Waves. This trip follows the same route as our Stirling Sunriser but throws in a brisk afternoon breeze. Kayak surfing and sailing are possible on most days. Enjoy the magical twilight as you glide into Deepwater Basin during the closing stages of this adventurous paddle. Limited to just 7 people. This trip is more suited to water confident and reasonably fit people as you will be kayaking in a day breeze.
