Cruise among the 144 islands and see dolphins in their natural environment.
Once mammals have been encountered our experienced crew will tell you all about these wonderful creatures and their habits. Our crew will assess the behaviour of the dolphins on the day and decide whether swimming with the dolphins will be possible.
You will then be given an option to join the dolphins in the water and swim with them. We supply you with snorkels, masks, fins and wetsuits.
Our modern high speed catamaran is purpose built for dolphin watching and swimming and offers easy access to the water, which is the warmest in New Zealand.

Dolphin Discoveries pioneered dolphin swimming and viewing in the Bay of Islands and is the only operator to provide you with a lifetime dolphin viewing guarantee on all trips.
Dolphins are viewed on 96% of trips in the Bay of Islands. If dolphins or whales are not seen, a non-transferable voucher will be given to come again for free.

Other Information
- If you don't wish to swim with the dolphins then you can stay on board and watch from the safety and comfort of the boat
- Children under 5 years are free of charge (dolphin watch only)
- You can also depart from Russell rather than Paihia of you prefer. Please let us know if this is the case
- Dolphin Discoveries operates with a Department of Conservation permit. However for the protection of the dolphins and other marine mammals, interaction with them is governed by the Marine Mammal Protection Act. If the conditions of the Act are not met or the sea conditions are not safe then trips will be viewing only
- A portion of your fare contributes to marine mammal research and conservation in the Bay of Islands
- Please dress comfortably. We recommend wearing soft soled shoes and to bring an extra jersey/jacket along, sun protection and of course, don’t forget your camera!
